Aims
Aims and Actions 2018-20
After a successful launch it is important that the Society is seen to deliver actions quickly to show its usefulness in a real sense. These actions should be driven from our agreed Aims. The Society will try to be inclusive of the whole community, from the young to the old, to families, individuals, clubs, societies, schools and businesses.
We should engage in formal activities, such as Local Planning, but also ensure we initiate fun ideas, such as social events, fetes etc. The society should try to maximise the membership, with approaching 2,000 dwellings and other organisations, this is not just to bring in revenue but also to be representative of community.
The web site, social media, associated events and meetings should create an effective mechanism to create feedback from the community to the Committee. The society should be an active partner with the Parish, District and County councils and all other groups who operate in our local area and attain grants and other financial assistance where available.
Holmer Green Village Society Aims 2018-20
Aim 1 Safety and Security
The society will improve the safety and security of the community in Holmer Green. Chiltern District Council’s survey in 2011 shows that tackling crime and anti-social behaviour was the second biggest issue, as it was in Holmer Greens Society’s membership questionaire. CDC also state that the fear of crime is disproportionate to the actual levels. The Society will compare actual crime in Holmer Green to that of other areas. The Society will encourage a sense of value in our village where vandalism is discouraged and actively addressed. Encouraging the safe use of cars and pedestrians is also a key
issue that will continue to be addressed. Chilterns ‘Safe Place’ scheme should be investigated to see
if relevant to Holmer Green and if so initiate involvement.
Key Actions 2018
- Initiate Holmer Green Watch and connect to individual Neighbourhood Watch groups and the local police and associated organisations
- Create a comparison document of actual crime levels
- Create measures to reduce the speed of vehicles in the village
- Investigate using CCTV, or dummy CCTV and signage
- Investigate Chiltern ‘Safe Place’ scheme
Aim 2 Environmental Management
The Society will improve and manage the appearance and environment in Holmer Green. Environmental concerns are the biggest concern of members of Holmer Green Society. The Society recognises that apart from the physical environment we live in there are social, (clubs and societies) and commercial (shops, traders, and business) environments that also form part of our community and need nurturing. The society also should ensure that attention is made to sustainability and ‘Eco’ or ‘Green’ initiatives.
Key Actions 2018
- Develop & maintain the Pond and surrounding area
- Perform an audit of the open spaces and identify local projects for improvements to the village
- Arrange Litter collection days and support GB Spring Clean
- Create an environment suitable for the young, families and older people
- Liaise with schools, local organisations and businesses
- Create a Dog Walkers Club addressing the issue of dog fouling
- Initiate a “green’ plan for the village
- Major projects such as a bandstand or renovating the whole of the pond area should be considered
Aim 3 Village Communications and Issues
The Society will listen to local issues and create appropriate actions by creating a variety of communications systems suitable to all residents of Holmer Green. For the society to serve its members it is critical that the society is able to understand what issues matter to our members and ensure that the Society delivers actions in line with their wishes. It is also important that the
members receive accurate and truthful information about any issues affecting the village so that
‘hearsay’ does not confuse the facts. It is important that the Society ensures that as many people as possible are capable of communicating on-line, but also caters for those who are unable to utilise such technology. As the need for ever faster broadband continues, the Society should lobby the service providers to ensure Holmer Green is well served.

Aim 4 County and District Planning
The Society will lobby for Holmer Green’s best interests in any major Planning Projects. Currently both WDC and CDC have potential interests in converting land alongside the A404 from Green Belt and developing housing for a combined 650 houses. It is important that correct information is made available to Society members and that the Society acts in their interests and following their wishes. The Society should not be automatically a ‘Pressure Group’, unless its members wish it.
