The first announcement about the Bat and Ball was made at Music on the Common on July 12th
The Village Society have been approached by a generous benefactor with an offer to help the village purchase the pub so that it can be managed and operated as a Community Asset. The options for the building are that it could be bought by another pub company or, if there is no interest in that converted to flats, or demolished and used for flats or houses. We believe that we should preserve the place for the benefit of the community.

Update October 22nd
The project is moving on well. The Bat and Ball is now closed and the survey has been completed. In the next few weeks the communications about the future of the Bat and Ball will be taken over by the new Community Management Organisation which has been setup over the last few weeks to manage the renovation and operations of the new Bat and Ball.
In the meantime there is still time for investors and volunteers to register their interest in becoming investors or volunteers in the venture by using the “Register my interest” button above.
There will also be an important role on offer when the Bat and Ball is reopened. The Community Management Team are very interested in hearing from any locals who would like to be considered as the pub manager when the Bat and Ball is open.

Update September 22nd
The meeting for residents who would like to be involved with the Community Management Organisation will be held at the Village Centre at 8:00 PM on September 23rd. 26 people have signed up to attend. There is space available for anybody with an interest in being involved in the committee or working in one of the many functions that the committee will be managing. Update September 14th
The public meeting held on September 9th welcomed 65 people for a presentation from the Village Society about the offer from a member of the village and the opportunity for the community to form an organisation to manage and run the Bat and Ball as a community pub.

Members of the audience were asked to indicate if they would be interested in gifting or investing in a organisation to renovate and manage the pub which would be defined and managed by the management team to meet the needs of the community. People were asked to specify a lower and upper amount they would be willing to gift or invest.
The audience were also asked to express an interest in being involved in setting up a steering group to work on defining the organisation and identifying a management team. They were also asked to indicate if they would like to be involved in the operation of the pub once it was set up and running.
Of the 65 people attending, a lower amount of £20000 and an upper amount of £73500 was indicated and 17 people expressed an interest in being involved in the steering group to create a community management team.
It was agreed that the next phase of the project would be a meeting to form the steering group to identify the next steps to create the right organisation to run a community managed pub.
The meeting will take place at the Village Centre on 23rd September at 8:00pm

Update August 4th
The Village Society will be hosting a Public Meeting on Tuesday September 9th at 8:00pm for a presentation and discussion about turning the Bat and Ball into a Community pub. Potential investors, supporters or any interest parties are welcome to attend this free event. Please use the online booking systme to reserve your place.
The Village Society is currently looking into the options of doing this and is interested to hear from residents.
We are particulary interested in finding out what residents would like to see at the Bat and Ball if it was community owned.
